Play, Piaget, Maslow's Hiearchy of Needs and Child Development

April 14, 2017

During one of my conference presentations, I showed this picture of the hierarchy of learning, and an audience member (a teacher) made the parallel to Piaget's Stages of Cognitive Development.

Later on, as we discussed mental health in adults, we then drew another parallel between the the Pyramid of Learning and Maslow's Hierarchy of Human Needs; many parents, caregivers and families are unable to offer their children the means for play, toys, therapeutic or learning activities, or access to discovery based opportunities because they are addressing physiological, and basic survival needs.  #humandevelopment #childdevelopment
